There are three main types of asbestos:
- Chrysotile — Commonly known as white asbestos
- Amosite — Commonly known as brown asbestos
- Crocidolite — Commonly known as blue asbestos
Generally, the perception is:
Blue is the most dangerous type of asbestos? This is somewhat true! But…Blue asbestos can be found in cement based products; this in turn is unlikely to produce major airborne fibre during removal and is not licensed works?
But, White asbestos found in insulation…is more likely to produce airborne fibre during removal? In turn this would be Notifiable to the H/S/E and be removed inside a polythene enclosure!
